Little Hands, Big Learning

Posted on September 29, 2026 in Pre-school.

Welcome to our very first Purple Bell Preschool blog post 💜

We thought we would start by sharing a little glimpse into what learning through play looks like at The Purple Bell.

This week, little hands were very busy at our pretend car wash! With cars to wash, bubbles to scrub and plenty of important jobs to do, something that looks like simple play was actually packed with opportunities for learning.

As the children washed, scrubbed and played, they were developing their fine motor skills, hand-eye coordination and independence, while also using their imaginations and exploring the world through pretend play.

There was lots of chatting, sharing, turn-taking and working alongside friends too, supporting communication, relationships and social development without the children even realising just how much learning was taking place.

This is exactly what we love about play-based learning. Children are naturally curious, and sometimes the simplest experiences can create the loveliest opportunities to explore, discover and learn.

And, of course, the cars got a very thorough clean along the way!
